Shoulder and back pain are especially common complaints. For some, the discomfort comes from playing itself; for others, it\u2019s due to poor sleep, an awkward work posture, or helping a friend move.  <\/div>\n<div data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\" data-en-clipboard=\"true\">If your pain is caused by shamisen playing, you should take the time to identify the root cause. The main culprits are often unnecessary tension (like raised shoulders or elbows) or a slouched sitting position. Many players start upright and gradually sink down as they play. They\u2019re all done standing, without equipment. A flat surface and enough space to reach up and to the sides are all you need. <br \/>Move with control \u2014 slowly, intentionally, and with awareness of muscle engagement.<br \/>At the end of each motion, pause for a few breaths and feel the tension consciously. Ask yourself: Where exactly do I feel the stretch? Can I deepen it safely? Is my spine straight?<br \/>\nWhen returning to a neutral stance, do so gently rather than collapsing out of the pose.[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.15.1&#8243; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Exercise 1: The Pillar<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"line-height: 250%;\">\n<li>Stretch your arms overhead, interlace your fingers, and push your palms upward as if trying to hold up the sky.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your arms long and your spine straight \u2014 avoid arching your lower back.<\/li>\n<li>Hold for a few breaths, then lean gently to one side.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain active extension through your hands and arms.<\/li>\n<li>Return to center and repeat on the other side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2>Exercise 2: The Elbow Poke<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"line-height: 250%;\">\n<li>Reach one arm up over your head.<\/li>\n<li>Bend the elbow so your hand moves toward your back.<\/li>\n<li>With the opposite hand, grasp the bent elbow and gently pull it inward toward your head.<\/li>\n<li>Keep your head upright; Stretch the Arms sideways away from your body, as if someone would pull on them.<\/li>\n<li>From your lower back, rotate your torso diagonally downward toward the floor.<\/li>\n<li>One hand reaches toward the center point between your feet.<\/li>\n<li>Keep both arms tense and extended away from your body throughout the motion.<\/li>\n<li>Hold tension for a few breaths, then return and repeat on the other side.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=&#8221;1_2,1_2&#8243;
